Joe Castillo is a master of the novel art of SandStory, in which an amazing range of pictures can be drawn with nothing more than sand and hands. The sand is laid out on light table, and the light shining through the table provides clarity to the images and, when needed, color. The images are projected on a screen as the artist works before a live audience.
This art form may be used to tell any kind of story. With his background in advertising Castillo uses SandStory to convey corporate and inspirational messages of many kinds.
In “Your Face Is Like a Rose,” the artist’s fingers shape images that morph into one another. The music, a theme from a popular movie, gives a further clue as to the images themselves and the likely title of the story. The overall effect is somewhat reminiscent of the classic optical illusion in which different angles show the face of a young girl or an old woman.
Joe Castillo has spoken and presented before both world leaders and major corporations. Joe has won the American Entertainment Readers Choice Award and was a finalist in both the 2011 Unique Art Event and the Event Solutions competitions for Entertainer of the Year — Solo and for Rising Star Male.
