Ideas To Enhance Your Women’s Ministry

Ideas To Enhance Your Women’s Ministry

Every woman knows another woman – or two or three. Figuring out a way to harness these relationships is critical to enhancing your women’s ministry. There are usually a few reasons that a ministry needs to be enhanced. The first is that there aren’t enough ladies willing to participate. The second is that there aren’t enough events to keep them engaged. Finally, it could be that you’ve already got the other two in place and that the events are just plain boring. None of these are acceptable, so you need to be proactive.

Market to the congregation that there is a women’s ministry and explain what the concept behind it is and sample some different topics that are discussed during them as well as past (or future) activities. Make it sound fun and more women will be likely to join. If you don’t have a newsletter to tell people about it, then start one. Or, go online to create a Facebook page. Better yet – do both.

No one will come to your events if they don’t know about them. A Facebook page is free to create and you can make a basic one in about five minutes. Encourage the entire congregation to get on there and “like” the page. Show them the benefits of doing so. You can post events, photos from past ones and much more. Plus, you are likely to get some new members out of the process, too.

Next, start scheduling events. Frequency is the key to enhancement. No one wants to be a part of a ministry that only does stuff when it’s convenient. They want to be able to count on a specific day of the week or month that they can dedicate to attending the events. Start out slow. Talk it over with the women who show up to find out how often they want to participate. Once a month is the minimum.

Have fun! Schedule a Girls Night Out for your next women’s ministry. These offer a great way for the ladies of the church and the entire community to come together for a two hour event filled with laughs, uplifting sermons and even some Christian storytelling.

Ministries can be a bit of a balancing act. There are going to be some ladies who want to know more about religion and want it to be an educational seminar. Others could care less if they see a Bible while they are there because they just want to have some fun. You need to be able to give both groups what they want, so find a happy medium. At the end of the event, ask for feedback. You may find that you need to create two kinds of events each month to keep everyone happy.

Offer incentives for bringing a friend. Whether it’s a raffle, a special prize at the end of the month or a mention in the congregation newsletter, make it enticing for all of the women to bring a friend to the event. They will have more fun when they know someone and you may see the congregation grow as a result, too.

Keep the events on a set schedule and give everyone advance notice of it – at least a month (with weekly reminders) if you can do it. This will allow everyone to schedule for the event and build up anticipation towards it.

Food and drinks are important as well. You can make it a pot luck, ask the women to take turns or buy it out of the church budget, but the everyone will need something to eat and drink – even if the event is only for an hour.
