Conversing with Dogs, Hanging Out with Dummies: The Exceptional Comedy of Todd Oliver
Many people frequently speak at length to their dogs. One such person is Todd Oliver of Branson, Missouri. Todd frequently chats with his Boston Terrier Irving and his West Highland White Terrier Lucy. When Todd talks to his dogs, however, the dogs talk back.
Todd is an innovative ventriloquist and comedian who has been keeping audiences in hysterics for more than 35 years. At one, point, he decided to perform with his pets as well as his dummies. So he created the illusion of a talking dog. This simple, but brilliant concept represented a breakthrough in the field of ventriloquism.
Todd’s doggie tête-à-têtes are so hilarious that he became a semi-finalist on NBC’s hit competition show “America’s Got Talent” in 2012. He’s also appeared on such TV programs as “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Today Show,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.”
As popular as Irving, Lucy, and Elvis are, Todd has not abandoned his traditional ventriloquism routines. Todd’s plastic companions include the fast-talking insult comic Joey, the befuddled senior citizen Joey, and Joey’s dotty girlfriend Miss Lilly. These fully-realized comedic creations are as funny as any human comedians currently working. And unlike his dogs’ dressing rooms, Todd’s shows are always clean.
Tod has starred in his own variety show at the distinguished New Americana Theatre in Branson, an act for which he won Branson All-American Entertainment Awards for Best Variety Performance and Best Dinner Show. Additionally, he’s performed all over the United States and at major venues like Hollywood’s Magic Castle and Luxor Las Vegas. He’s entertained on cruise ships and at many public and private schools too.
What’s more, Todd’s act is ideal for corporate meetings and retreats. His material puts audiences at ease; at the same time, it’s refreshing and even uplifting. This kind of performance allows everyone assembled to laugh together as one. After his shows, people tend to congregate and discuss their amazement at what they’ve just witnessed. In other words, it’s the kind of memorable show that allows audience members to form bonds. It’s no wonder that Todd has already won over such clients as Sony, General Motors, and Land O’Lakes.
Of course, many show business teams have split up acrimoniously over the years. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about Todd, Irving, Lucy, and Elvis ever going their separate ways. For one, thing, Todd truly loves animals. He lives on a ranch, and he and his family own seven dogs, two cats, and five horses. He’s an active supporter of many shelters for homeless animals, and in his spare time he helps people find pets to adopt. On top of that, there’s never any professional jealousy between Todd Oliver and his dogs. That’s because the dogs always let Todd think that he’s the star.
